ABA therapy has faced various critiques, some of which only touch on the surface of deeper concerns. One significant issue is the focus on excessive compliance training, which may transform children, especially nonverbal and low-functioning individuals with ASD, into mere conformists.
This raises an important question about the autonomy of these children as they grow into adulthood. Are we inadvertently molding them to have the independence of a marionette? It appears that some critics are not fully aware of this critical issue.
