Texas Requirements for Individualized Education Program (IEP): Review Process

  1. Annual Review: The IEP must be reviewed at least once a year. This review is conducted by the ARD committee to evaluate the student's progress toward the annual goals and to make necessary adjustments. This process includes reviewing data on the student’s performance and progress and updating the IEP as needed (Texas Education Agency) (Texas Project First).

  2. Reevaluation: At least every three years, the student must undergo a reevaluation to determine if they continue to qualify for special education services. This process helps in assessing whether the educational needs of the student have changed (Texas Education Agency).

  3. Parental Involvement: Parents have the right to be involved in the development and review of the IEP. They can request meetings, suggest changes, and agree or disagree with proposed elements of the IEP. Parental consent is required before the school can provide special education services (Texas Education Agency).

  4. Amendments: The IEP can be amended at any time without a full ARD meeting if the parent and the school agree. These changes are documented in the IEP and shared with all relevant parties (Texas Project First).

These procedures are in place to ensure that the educational needs of students with disabilities are met appropriately and consistently. The Texas Education Agency provides detailed guidelines and resources to support the development and implementation of IEPs (Texas Project First) (SPEDTex).
